Eleven of the most talented wood artists in the Twin Cities, all members of the Minnesota Woodworkers Guild, have come together for the first time to collectively show their work at Art-A-Whirl, the largest open studio/art crawl in the US, May 18-20.
These artists value distinctive design and quality materials and construction. Their unique pieces highlight the natural beauty of wood. As wood artists, they primarily make furniture, but also do other types of high-end woodworking and art. As their work is custom made, they work directly with customers to meet their requirements and wishes. They are definitely not production companies.
The purpose of Art of the Grain is to: expand awareness of custom-made wood furniture and specialty items; show that custom made furniture is a viable option for those who value quality design and construction; educate attendees on the “forest-to-furniture” process of how custom furniture is made; provide a showcase for potential customers to meet the artists.
There are two generous sponsors: Youngblood Lumber Company, a Northeast Minneapolis fixture for over 150 years, is providing the venue and event assistance, and the Minnesota Woodworkers Guild providing substantial monetary assistance and support.
